The Wild Horse of the Danube Delta

The Danube Delta is one of Europe's last great wildernesses—a place where nature still breathes freely, yet where that freedom has become increasingly fragile. Among its most captivating inhabitants are the wild horses, symbols of endurance, instinct, and untamed beauty. Their future, however, is uncertain. As prolonged drought and record-low water levels transform the Delta's delicate ecosystems, countless species face growing threats to their survival.

My love for horses inspired me to paint one of these remarkable animals. Rather than using conventional pigments alone, I chose to experiment with coffee as my primary medium. Coffee possesses warm, earthy tones that evoke the colours of the Delta itself—its reeds, dry grasses, riverbanks, and the passage of time. Working with soft coffee washes allowed the horse to emerge gradually.

Touches of green suggest the hope that nature may recover. Splashes of red speak of vulnerability, urgency, and the invisible wounds inflicted on wildlife by climate change and habitat loss. Delicate accents of gold celebrate the precious value of biodiversity, reminding us that these animals are living treasures rather than resources to be consumed.

Painting with coffee has become an exciting artistic journey for me. The medium is unpredictable, transparent, and expressive, requiring patience while rewarding spontaneity. This wild horse is, in my opinion, one of the most successful results of my exploration. It demonstrates how an unconventional material can convey both softness and strength—qualities that perfectly reflect the spirit of the animal itself.

Through this work, I hope viewers will not only admire the elegance of the wild horse but also reflect on the fragile balance between humanity and nature. Every disappearing wetland, every falling river level, and every endangered species reminds us that protecting wildlife is also about protecting our own future.

My work is an invitation to rediscover the beauty of the natural world and, true to my artistic philosophy, to Find the Art of Life!
