SELF-PORTRAIT
Among the innovative approaches to self-portraiture lies the enigmatic concept of a back-profile self-portrait, a technique that invites viewers to delve deeper into the mystery of the artist's identity. My own avant-garde back-profile self-portrait seeks to defy traditional conventions, offering a narrative steeped in subtle intrigue and hidden layers. The photograph taken of me from behind captured the essence of my silhouette and posture. From this image, I crafted a series of preparatory sketches, focusing on the interplay of light and shadow to evoke a sense of mystery. The dress in the portrait was reimagined as a regal, flowing princess gown, embodying both grace and fantasy. This element of the composition allowed me to blend reality with imagination, creating a persona that transcends the ordinary.
The final painting captures the delicate balance between presence and absence, inviting the observer to consider the unseen facets of the self—a celebration of the unknown and the unspoken. Through this work, I aim to challenge traditional notions of self-portraiture, offering a glimpse into the layered complexities of identity.
